Jamaican Rum (HMPDN), Distilled in 2014, Mark <H>, Aged 6 years in the tropics and 5 years on the continent, Finished for 12 months in our 2003 TDL cask (Belgian Rum Fair), Single cask of 320 bottles, Cask Strength 62.9%, 500 ml
"A true carnival in a bottle, this Hampden cask dances with funky pineapples, fiery esters, and the sun-drenched energy of Jamaica—a spirit as wild as the island that gave it birth."
Color: Golden amber
Nose: A tropical explosion from the first sip: juicy mango, ripe papaya, and roasted pineapple burst forth on a base of charred banana. The typical Hampden funk remains, with notes of varnish and rubber.
Palate: Intense and warming. Exotic fruit dominates the initial attack: mango-papaya smoothie, pineapple caramel, ripe banana. All of this is wrapped in a funky tapestry, with aromas of fresh herbs, dark chocolate, brewed black tea, and a light smoky touch. The influence of the TDL cask brings a creamy, almost pastry-like sweetness and a beautiful spicy complexity.
Finish: Long, persistent, and full of contrasts. The exotic fruits slowly fade to give way to notes of precious woods, black tea, sweet nutmeg, and a touch of salinity. A candied banana returns at the very end, like a nod to the first release, but with more roundness.
Conclusion: A second anniversary release that pushes the fruitiness even further, while retaining the raw and explosive character we love so much in this type of rum. At once sunnier, more indulgent, and just as unique.
