A blend of single casks of Caroni (Trinidad), TDL (Trinidad), HMPDN (Jamaica), and DDL Diamond (Guyana) to reflect the great terroirs of the British West Indies and respect the tradition of Royal Navy rum, which is bottled at 54.5% ABV and bottled at navy gunpowder proof.
Nose: The nose is quite Trinidadian, I would say. You'll find some blackcurrant markers from the TDL, combined with a relatively garage-like character from the Caroni. The combination is quite pleasant and classic, but remarkably effective.
Then, slightly smoky notes reminiscent of olives, licorice, and citrus emerge, all resting on a caramelized and chocolatey base.
In short, the kind of thing we love in a Navy Rum; on the nose, it's a success! This blend seems to have everything we expect from this type of product.
Palma
The palate is rich, with a nice, powerful kick without being overpowering. Caramel, red berries, camphor, garage oils, a pleasant smokiness, and praline chocolate arrive quite quickly.
The finish leaves us with a lovely licorice note, a touch of bitterness characteristic of cocoa powder, and mocha.
The alcohol is just right for this kind of rum. A Navy Rum should still pack a punch.
