Port Mourant, distilled in 1997 and bottled in 2012 after fifteen years of tropical aging, is a selection from the Genoese merchant Velier, dating back to a time when Luca Gargano had access to the cellars of Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) through his friend Yesu Persaud.
These selections, and particularly certain bottles like this Uitvlugt, greatly contributed to Velier's reputation, as did their remarkable Caroni bottlings. Velier no longer has access to DDL's stocks, and all these bottles are among the most sought-after rums by collectors and enthusiasts for their typicity and concentration resulting from tropical aging.
Only 1,094 bottles were drawn from four casks, with an angel's share of 73%. Port Mourant is the oldest wooden pot still still in operation.
