Luxuriously dark, refinedly velvety character... The magnificent mahogany hue and aroma already hint at the long-aged rum.
The impressive 20 years in ex-bourbon barrels made of American oak – 13 years under the tropical Jamaican sun, followed by seven more years of continental maturation in Europe – ensure a luxuriously dark and refinedly velvety character. Initially, typical aromas of oak and sweet caramel are noticeable.
On the second and third tasting, however, one realizes that there is much more to discover, with notes of dried fruit, candied sugar, and dark chocolate emerging. Subtle hints of Jamaica's funky side appear again and again, with fruity components emerging from the background, until the rum concludes this almost perfect taste experience with a pleasantly long and velvety finish. In times when Jamaican rum is heavily influenced by its high ester content, this classic rum style has almost been forgotten.
All the more reason for us to be proud that our first Long Pond bottling is so rare and tastes so incredibly good.
Very rich, dark, elegantly sweet, reminiscent of Jamaican bottlings from the 1970s and 80s, as well as the exceptional Appleton 30 Year Old.
For several reasons, Edition 59 of the RumClub Private Selection series features an exceptionally rare single cask that will make rum lovers' hearts beat faster.
The rum comes from the traditional Long Pond Distillery in Jamaica. The distillery is highly regarded and loved by connoisseurs and enthusiasts, but the availability of casks is very limited compared to other Jamaican distilleries.
To emphasize the rarity of this treasure: the rum was distilled in 2004 and aged for over 20 years in oak barrels – only two casks from this vintage have been bottled worldwide, and they sold out very quickly at the recommended retail price.
The rum bears the mark "CRV" – a once-popular mark that is no longer in production. At Long Pond, CRV stands for a light style with a low ester content.
