This agricultural rum from the small Bielle distillery was aged for 10 years in a single bourbon barrel bearing the number 137. It is a cask strength, bottled at its natural strength.
Each bottle displays the barrel number, the number of bottles made from the barrel, and, of course, the bottle number.
Tasting Note :
The powerful nose of this rum is immediately accessible and generous. Ripe fruits and cane compote offer a lovely freshness and youthfulness that one would not have suspected. The old nuts (walnuts) are the first to announce a deep descent into a darker, more mature profile.
Aeration allows the fruits to settle and soften under our nose. The first of these is a prune that takes us directly to the land of Armagnac, accompanied by a handful of almonds and enhanced by a light hint of mint.
On the palate, a beautiful power takes over the taste buds, still in the spirit of a bodybuilding Armagnac. The dried fruits are concentrated and flavorful, supported by pepper and lime zest typical of fresh cane. It's quite dry on the palate, leading to a relatively astringent and spicy woodiness.
On the finish, roasted nuts continue this rather intense and ultimately rather serious experience.
"A dry and powerful agricultural rum, which navigates the borders of Armagnac..."
